Arc up for award
- Nottingham Evening Post

Miller Birch’s flagship ng² business park is in the running for a national award. The Arc, the 44,000 sq ft grade A building at the Queen’s Drive park, has been nominated for a British Council for Offices award.

The building is currently home to law firm Geldards and private bank Coutts. Further lettings are expected to be announced shortly.

The British Council for Offices nomination comes in the wake of awards and nominations which include the Lord Mayor’s Award for Urban Design and a Royal Institute of British Architects regional award.

The Arc was designed by the Nottingham architects Maber Associates. Mark Bielby, development director at Miller Birch, said: “The brief to our architect was to design a building large enough to make its presence felt but for which the accommodation maintained maximum flexibility.

“The architecture has created an impression of unity so that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. In essence, the building has reinforced the master plan for ng² and set the standard for other offices to follow.

“It was agreed that the design which could offer the best opportunity of meeting the objective was a crescent shaped building located at the hub of the master plan. The building was named The Arc due to its striking form.”

Geldards relocated from The Ropewalk, taking 22,700 sq ft in the building. They have since been joined by Coutts, which relocated from a period building in the city, taking a lease of 5,650 sq ft.
Craig Straw, director of business space at Nottingham property agents Innes England, said: “A deal has been agreed in respect of the ground floor with the remaining suite having been short-listed by a number of other occupiers.”

Commenting on the award nomination he said: “One of the BCO’s primary objectives is to define excellence in office space and as part of this objective their annual awards programme provides public recognition for top quality design and a bench mark for excellence in workspaces.”

The results will be announced at a dinner attended by property professionals later in the year.
