International hotel to ng²

26/6/08

Miller Birch, in partnership with Arck Alternative Asset Fund PCC (Arck), has submitted plans to Nottingham City Council to build a 184-bedroom state of the art hotel at its flagship ng2 business park.

The £25 million development designed by Nottingham-based Maber Architects will be situated at the park’s entrance and operated by an international hotel brand.

Miller Birch and Arck have worked in close partnership to deliver a hotel that will meet occupiers’ exacting standards, with Arck taking ownership of the building once it is complete. Subject to approval, construction will be undertaken by East Midlands firm Bowmer & Kirkland and is scheduled to start in January 2009, with practical completion due in January 2010.

Peter Gadsby, Chairman of Miller Birch comments: “Securing an international hotel occupier is another major triumph for both ng2 and the City of Nottingham. It will be a perfect complement to our existing office buildings and significantly enhance the business environment for our occupiers.”

“Being located within easy reach of East Midlands Airport, the M1 and Nottingham Railway station, this hotel has the potential to become the gateway for visitors to the capital of the East Midlands.’ He adds, ‘Within the established business community, ng2 has become a leading location for Nottingham. Visitors and ng2 occupiers alike will be able to take advantage of the high-class accommodation, a quality restaurant, café/bar, meeting rooms and gym facilities.”

“ng2 has attracted international businesses including Experian, HBoS, Bank of England, Coutts, HSBC and CIS. It has also led to the refocus of Nottingham’s corporate business community having attracted the likes of Geldards, Innes England, Black Horse and Global Fire Solutions from the city centre.”

Of the hotel he adds, “This is not an ‘off the peg’ building that we see in many of our towns and cities. It has been specifically designed as both a flagship building for the operator and to make a positive contribution to the architecture of ng2.”

The 5-storey building will have high quality double and king size rooms, an 80-seater restaurant, informal café/bar area, fully equipped meeting/conference facilities and 105 dedicated parking spaces.

Simon Green, Director of Sustainable Development at Nottingham City Council, who was instrumental in attracting Specsavers to ng², comments “The presence of a high class hotel at ng² would not only create new jobs at the hotel, but represent a fantastic first impression of our city businesses and investors from outside the region.”

Ben Glover of Miller Birch adds: “This is another great result, following closely in the footsteps of the 35,000 sq ft letting to Specsavers for their Regional Financial and Call Centre operation.

“Our partnership with Arck is the result of several months of hard work, designing a building that can both function as an international hotel and deliver stunning architecture. Credit is due to all parties and we look forward to continuing our successful working relationship through the build programme.”
